FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, CA (MONDAY JANUARY 13, 2014)– Heavy Metal Anthem (www.facebook.com/heavymetalanthem), a Los Angeles-based band formed by former Mighty Six Ninety founder Rich Michalowski and Adam Merrin of The 88 (www.the88.net) have confirmed January 21, 2014 for the release of their debut E.P. Say Tonight. Merrin also produced the six-song release, which is currently #1 on FMQB Submodern’s National New Music Show Radio Charts.
The process of fleshing out and recording Say Tonight was an organic one for both Adam Merrin and Rich Michalowski. Formed in late 2013 on the east side of Los Angeles via a chance meeting at an Eagle Rock record store, the duo got together to record one of Michalowski’s song to see how the process would go. They hit it off musically as well, having an immediate connection to their shared love of crafty songwriting, ‘80’s indie brit tunes (think The Smiths, New Order) as well as a less obvious fascination with both ska & dancehall. What started as a one-song trial run (which eventually became the title track) soon blossomed into a full ledged recording session that netted a total of 6 tracks. They include:
Say Tonight
Into My Arms
Again & Again
Please Stay
Lying In The Dark
Every Day I Want To Die
“I’m so proud of the way Say Tonight came together,” said Adam Merrin, producer of Heavy Metal Anthem’s debut release. “The process of recording and collaborating with Rich Michalowski was one of the most fulfilling experiences I have had in the studio. I fell in love with Rich’s songs on first listen and knew this was something I wanted to be involved in from the get go.”
Prior to forming Heavy Metal Anthem, both band members have found success in their prior incarnations. For Michalowski, it came as founding member of the band Mighty Six Ninety who toured and released music through various labels in the United States, Japan and the U.K. from 2003-2008.
For Merrin, who continues with The 88, success came both as a band member as well as a solo performer. Not only has The 88 toured internationally backing and collaborating with the Kinks Ray Davies but also licensing countless songs to film, television and commercials. Highlights include scoring the theme song for the hit NBC sitcom Community as well as recording songs for hit motion picture, The Lorax. As a solo performer, Merrin also found success in the licensing world, placing songs on Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, The Big C, Bones and more.
