In addition to the store launch, the Stand Up! Curated by Grammy Award winning owner of Stand Up! Records, Dan Schlissel, The Akumal Comedy Festival features dozens of comedians in 5 venues over 5 days and is located 62 miles south of Cancun. Confirmed talent includes: Mary Mack, Tim Harmston, Paul Hooper, Chris Garcia, Darlene Westgor, JT Habersaat, Tommy Ryman, Ray Harrington, Adam Quesnell, Rojo Perez, Mike O’Keefe, Gus Lynch, Jeff Pfoser, Turner Sparks, Al Klemick, Craig Norton and Luke Bugeaud.

With a roster of more than 120 releases and counting, Stand Up! Records features both new comics as well as more established comedians. These include Lewis Black, Doug Stanhope, Hannibal Buress, Patton Oswalt, Marc Maron, Greg Proops, Will Durst, Maria Bamford and other well-known funny people on CD, vinyl and digital formats

Stand Up! Records was founded in 2002 and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is run by the guru of the gag and Grammy-winning comedy producer Dan Schlissel. It’s a label that has expanded from a labor of love into an ever-expanding comedic empire, releasing more than 120 releases in their 10-year history. It’s Schlissel’s aesthetic for the label that places as much of a premium on album art for both CD and vinyl packaging as it does on the comedy material itself. In fact, the goal of the label is to marry great artwork, along with top-notch sound recording quality with truly hilarious comedy material.

Aside from simply releasing the next great comedy records of the 21st century, Schlissel’s first order of business in founding the label was commissioning noted artist Shepard Fairey in 2002 to design the label logo.  This focus on the overall concept of comedy as art has led to his aforementioned founding the very first comedy festival in Mexico, The Akumal Comedy Festival each Spring. This year, as in years past, the unconventional label has headed to SXSW in Austin to record and put on unofficial showcases from young ‘outlaw’ comics, that will be released later this year as part of the ongoing series, The Texas Mess.

Stand Up! Records is so focused on blazing a new trail as being more than just a record label but a comedy brand juggernaut. By combining comedy, great art, producing cool stuff, discovering new talent, founding comedy festivals and creating merchandise Schlissel follows one simple credo: If I like it, I’ll make it.
