March 2023 UK Tour: Dream Syndicate + Rain Parade + Vicki Peterson (Bangles)

Throughout their career, The Dream Syndicate have played London many times – usually as part of a more extensive European tour– but March 2023 will mark the band’s first-ever full UK tour.

The Dream Syndicate are very excited to announce that support for this tour will be Rain Parade, in a special acoustic setting featuring co-founders Matt Piucci and Steven Roback. The Rain Parade’s 1983 debut LP, Emergency Third Rail Power Trip is internationally recognized as a psychedelic masterpiece. Numerous groups have cited Rain Parade as an influence, including My Bloody Valentine, Ride, the Stone Roses, and Primal Scream.

And as an extra bonus, long-time friend Vicki Peterson of The Bangles will be playing lead guitar all night / every night as a member of The Dream Syndicate. Vicki wrote or co-wrote nine of the eleven songs on The Bangles popular debut album All Over The Place. Vicki was also a member of The Continental Drifters throughout the 1990s with Dream Syndicate bassist Mark Walton – and she has a cameo vocal on the Rain Parade’s forthcoming album. So, expect some surprises each night from these musical friends who are all linked via the Los Angeles Paisley Underground scene of their youth.

Vicki says, “It’s no exaggeration to say that I have been a fan of The Dream Syndicate since the earliest days, so to be asked to play guitar with them on this tour is a Paisley Dream come true. We shall make a joyous noise!”

Although their initial template of Velvet Underground meets Crazy Horse may seem commonplace today, when The Dream Syndicate emerged in the early 80s, their raw twin guitar, bass and drums approach was a rarity in an era of slick MTV bands fuelled by synthesizers and drum machines.  And like VU, The Dream Syndicate spawned many imitators via their legendary debut LP The Days Of Wine And Roses.

The Dream Syndicate have moved well past their early Velvet Underground influences though, and have taken on British glam, German prog, and more. The Wire magazine recently said about the latest album,

Ultraviolet Battle Hymns [on Fire Records] finds The Dream Syndicate in a relaxed, reflective mode….the attention to texture that has characterized the band’s post-reunion sequence is more acute than ever…with songs swathed in layers of processed keyboards and guitar that bring to mind to Bowie circa Lodger and Scary Monsters…Steve Wynn is a fine narrator throughout, his voice richer, sharper, and more authoritative than [his] youth.”

Founding members Steve Wynn (vocals/guitar) and Dennis Duck (drums) will be accompanied by long-time bassist Mark Walton and Vicki Peterson joining as a ‘one time only’ special guest guitarist. Their setlist will span the band’s entire career including a nod to the forthcoming 4-CD box set [on Fire Records] of The Days of Wine and Roses titled history kinda pales when it and you are aligned – featuring 54 songs from the original line-up, including 10 hard to find rarities and 31 recordings never before released!
