FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, CA (FRIDAY DECEMBER 16, 2016) – One of the greatest power-pop bands of all-time, The Rubinoos (https://www.facebook.com/rubinoos/) announced today that they have confirmed their first Los Angeles area show in 16 years at The Viper Room on Sunday February 2017.
The band is playing its first Southern California show early next year in the midst of a burst of activity including a European tour and the release of their second 3xLP box set of reissues The LP Collection Volume 2 from Wild Honey Records, after The LP Collection Volume 1 sold out.
“It’s about time we play the city I’ve lived in for 34 years,” said founding member Jon Rubin of The Rubinoos. “Most of my friends here don’t believe The Rubinoos actually exist. We are so ready!”
The Rubinoos were founded in 1970 by then- Junior High School friends Tommy Dunbar and Jon Rubin and made their recording debut in 1975 on the Berserkley label. They quickly made a name for themselves with their cover of Tommy James & The Shondells “I Think We’re Alone Now” in 1977 which reached the top 40 nationwide and landed them on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. The Power Pop classic “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” was recorded in 1978 and reached number 4 airplay song of the year in the U.K.
The band toured the U.S. supporting Elvis Costello (on the Armed Forces tour for 56 dates), on the heels of their sophomore LP Back to the Drawing Board in 1979. Signing to Warner Bros. Records in 1983, they recorded with Todd Rundgren and found their video “If I Had You Back” on heavy rotation on MTV. Shortly thereafter they recorded the theme song for the cult classic “Revenge of the Nerds.”
In 1999, after an extended vacation, the band reformed and haven’t looked back since. They have released countless albums, singles, collections, anthologies and compilations over the past decade and a half, all the while touring Spain, Italy, Japan, Scandinavia and the U.S. In January, to warm up for their Viper Room show, the band will be touring in England and Spain, Don’t miss this rare LA chance to see these legends of Power Pop.
