LOS ANGELES, CA. (THURSDAY JANUARY 18, 2024) – The Metropole Remix Project started on the Nomark Discord channel. It was just an idea in amongst the chatter; to see if anyone was interested in remixing Metropole, one of the otherworldly love songs on Tobin’s Stone Giants West Coast Love Stories album.

The response to our Discord post was a wonderful surprise. Remix after remix was sent and slowly it became clear that there were some amazing versions of this bewitching song being created.
The question “what would you make of this?” was answered with a burst of creativity from established artists, as well as first timers and inventive experimenters.
There was no expectation of release when the stems were made available. Those involved were creating for the pleasure of it, an actual case of Art for Art’s sake.
The diversity and quality of the mixes made it clear that they deserved a wider audience.
But who releases an album of remixes of the same song?
Nomark took inspiration from The Ruts’ Babylon’s Burning Reconstructed released in 2005, which featured 16 different versions of their 1979 single and Front 242’s Headhunter 2000 released in 1998, which featured 17 different versions of their 1988 single.In February 2024, five years after the label’s very first release, Nomark will release The Metropole Remixes, 19 remixes across two albums.
This release is an opportunity for Nomark to introduce a whole cohort of new talents and artists to those who eschew the algorithms and seek more interesting sounds.

In the 5 years since Nomark released its debut the label has released an extraordinary range of music from the aliases that live inside Amon Tobin’s head.
When West Coast Love Stories, the debut album from Stone Giants was released in 2021 it was greeted with surprise and delight.

Heavy metal Bible Kerrang! Gave it 4 stars and described it as an “unexpected treat”, PROG declared it “intoxicating”, for Trebuchet it was “thrilling” and Electronic Sound magazine recognized that “only in Tobin’s dexterous hands could the sound of amour be so beautifully wrung from machines.”
