ABOUT FUN LOVERS UNITE!
This is the third live music and comedy event dedicated to raising awareness and action for common-sense gun violence prevention efforts and the elected officials who stand up for the safety of our communities. The event is being produced by friends Joshua Mills in Los Angeles and Maccabee Montandon and Kim Russell in Brooklyn; they are all parents of young children who want to do more to prevent gun violence in America. Josh felt sickened and then galvanized following the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in 2012. Mac’s brother, Asher, was murdered with a gun during an attempted robbery in Los Angeles in 1992. This live event is happening on the day of Asher Montandon’s 50th birthday. Kim survived a shooting in 1999 that took the life of her friend, Philip Rau. She now works to prevent the scourge of gun violence in America through policy reform and education.
ABOUT WOMEN AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE
Women Against Gun Violence was founded in 1993 by feminist author Betty Friedan and Los Angeles Police Commissioner Ann Reiss Lane. For twenty-five years, WAGV has stood up to the gun lobby, fearless in the fight, and has helped to pass some of the nation’s toughest gun laws. In addition, WAGV offers free educational summits and workshops in California to educate the public about guns, teaching them how to prevent gun violence in their homes and communities.
