MELISSA SULLIVAN’S “BORDERS/FRONTERAS” MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERES TODAY ON MXDWN.COM
Animated Video Visually Explores Lyrical Boundaries Both Physical and Emotional That Keep People Separated in Original Song Referencing U.S. Border Wall With Mexico
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, CA (THURSDAY JULY 23, 2020) – American singer-songwriter, Melissa Sullivan and online entertainment magazine MXDWN announced today the animated music video for the song “Fronteras/Borders” from her debut album Late Last Night (Darling Sparrow) premieres here today.
Directed by Gabriele Fabbro and Illustrator by Serena Viganò in Milan Italy. The video for “Borders/Fronteras” visually explores the walls placed between all of us, both physical and emotional through animation. Fabbro and Sullivan originally wanted to make a non-animated music video but due to the restrictions of the global pandemic, Fabbro suggested a lyric video and Illustrator Serena Viganò was brought in. Fabbro and Viganò focused on the emotional obstacles instead of actual physical borders that come between us all.
“At the time I wrote this song, “Borders/Fronteras” on my debut album Late Last Night, I was seeing a lot of footage of people being stopped at borders around the world along with the proposal from our government to expand the wall at the Mexican-United States border,” said singer/songwriter Melissa Sullivan. “Since then, when I sing the song live, it has touched people in various ways. To some, it has become a song about identity and acceptance so this music video represents these sentiments beautifully.”
Released last month, Late Last Night is a hypnotic blend of jazz, pop, folk and blues of original music and covers. It evokes sonic imagery of lost connections between lovers on both Sullivan’s original songs and newly realized standouts from The Great American Songbook and other tracks.
