FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA & NEW YORK, N.Y. (MONDAY MAY 5, 2025) – Singer-songwriter Hannah Marcus announced today that she has confirmed the release of a previously unreleased album, Ten Bones from a Virgin Graveyard, on June 6, 2025 on Bar/None Records. Fans can pre-save the record here.

Ten Bones from a Virgin Graveyard was recorded at the legendary old Hotel2Tango in Montreal, Canada between 2004-2010 and produced by Marcus, Thierry Amar and Efrim Menuck.

Released at last into the wild this June after well over 15 years in hibernation, Ten Bones from a Virgin Graveyard is a gothic quilt of dark and tender lit-folk, filmic instrumentals and post-rock musical theatre numbers. Conceived by unrepentant singer-songwriter Hannah Marcus, the album features a host of luminaries and ne’er-do-wells – including several acknowledged emperors of anarchist caravan Godspeed You! Black Emperor, celebrated horn player-composer Matana Roberts, and electrifying drummer Kevin Shea. Just in time for the approaching singularity, this is a collection that revels in the poetry of human fallibility often cloaked in a haunting, almost dreamlike score of a lost film.

The songs on Ten Bones from a Virgin Graveyard were recorded at the Hotel2Tango in Montreal, Canada between 2004-2010. Mixed by Efrim Menuck, Thierry Amar and Howard Bilerman at Hotel2Tango several times between 2004-2017. Mastered at Grey Market Sound. Comes out digitally in late spring 2025 from Bar None Records.

“I wanted to wait to release tis till the singularity actually occurred but it seems to be a moving target so we just went ahead,” said Hannah Marcus.

Tracks include:

  1. Ten Bones and a Screwdriver
  2. Affirmative Infinity
  3. Bury Me Under the Elbow Room
  4. A Virgin Graveyard
  5. Hey Mister Goldminer
  6. Eric
  7. A Sweeter Way to Say Goodbye
  8.   In My Opinion
  9. Ray’s Last Time at the Old Hotel
  10. Arz Er Rab
  11. From English Planes

Referring to the cinematic pace of her solo material, legendary archivist and author Pat Thomas declared Hannah, “Carly Simon on LSD.” An album of brand new material is set for release later this year.

ABOUT HANNAH MARCUS

Hannah Marie Marcus is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for her emotionally resonant, genre-defying music that blends elements of folk, jazz, slowcore and experimental rock. Born in NYC, she was raised in Spanish Harlem by a painter mother and a father who was a cellist and composer. Her grandfather Ernst Levy was a notable composer and pianist. Growing up alongside her autistic and developmentally disabled sister, Melissa, profoundly influenced her worldview and artistic sensibility, instilling in her a deep empathy and a fascination with alternative perceptions of reality.

Marcus began her recording career after a move to San Francisco in 1989 where she plunged headfirst into the “Sadcore” scene after watching American Music Club play at a parking lot.

Over the years she has collaborated with a diverse range of musicians and bands, including Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon), saxophonist/composer Matana Roberts, members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, author Rick Moody and artist Nina Katchadourian.  Keith Higgons wrote for his podcast: “Her work transcends boundaries, speaking directly to the heart and soul of those who have the privilege of experiencing it. With each composition, she invites us to embark on a sonic journey through the depths of human emotion, making her a true luminary in the world of music.”

Marcus has also been increasingly active in the world of olfactory art.
