Actively Recording and Touring After Extended Layoff, Rain Parade Are Currently Recording a New Album Set for 2025 with Tour Dates to be Announced in the New Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA (THURSDAY NOVEMBER 7, 2024) – Seminal Paisley-Underground band Rain Parade announced today that they will release a deluxe, two-disc edition of their 1983 debut album Emergency Third Rail Power Trip along with a new digital 2-song single Surprise, Surprise (Bubba O’Riley Remix)/Bee and His Buzz of new material on Friday December 13.

Furthermore, Rain Parade are currently in the studio recording material for a brand new album set for 2025 with tour dates to follow. As with the deluxe reissue and new single, the new album will be released on Label 51 Recordings, run by Bill Hein, who headed up Enigma Records, the label that signed the band in the eighties.

“Going through the band’s archives to compile bonus tracks for our debut album, which is a deluxe edition of our Enigma Records album Emergency Third Rail Power Trip, we found a full-album’s worth of demos, live tracks, rehearsal demos and 4-track versions, and it is longer than the original album,” said Matt Piucci of Rain Parade. “Steven, John and I have worked together on numerous projects since the 80s, specifically the Hellenes and Viva Saturn. The pandemic allowed us to make a full length LP, Last Rays of a Dying Sun, which we released in 2023 on Label 51. Now, with the recent US and European tours, and the new EP Last Stop on the Underground, and our upcoming new album (to be released in 2025), we are busier than at any point since we originally formed.”

A limited edition color vinyl version of Emergency Third Rail Power Trip released last April for Record Store Day event and is now being released as a black vinyl double LP and as a double CD. The original album was remastered by Rain Parade Producer Jim Hill in 2023 and there is a second disc full of rarities. The gatefold album jacket and CD packaging have extensive liner notes and photos. This 2-disc set is the definitive remastered collection of the original five-piece line up (including Steven Roback’s brother David and keyboardist Will Glenn) with a whole second disc of stray tracks, demos, live nuggets – all gathered together for the first time – many of which most fans haven’t even heard.

Rain Parade are THE sound of California: Both North: all the Fillmore West & Haight-Ashbury bands and South: The Doors, Buffalo Springfield, Byrds, and the Sunset Strip.  Rain Parade take all of that and filter it through the English psychedelia of the Beatles and Pink Floyd, sprinkle in some Television and other assorted punk/new wave influences. Live, Rain Parade do not disappoint – the sounds coming out of Matt Piucci’s guitar is a lush yet vibrant soundscape like Neil Young’s sinewy lead guitar bumping into a Mellotron helmed by Brian Eno. Steven Roback’s dreamy vocals are like a warm blanket enveloping your brain like a hit of Benzodiazepine.

‍Last year, Rain Parade released a new LP, Last Rays of a Dying Sun, on Label 51 Recordings. This album has garnered high praise and reverential reviews. Writer Mark Deming stated “this is a 21st Century version of their trademark approach, with the nocturnal melodies, the thoughtful interplay of the guitars, the starry-eyed vocals, expert harmonies, and the gently-insistent rhythms coming together with the same impact  they summoned in their salad days.”

‍Rain Parade has been keeping busy since the release of their comeback album. Steven, Matt, and drummer/percussionist Stephan Junca went to the UK in March of 2023 for an acoustic, stripped down tour in support of their old pals Dream Syndicate, to smashing success. The winter of 2024 saw the band hit the road with like-minded psychedelic voyagers The Third Mind, a supergroup made up of Dave Alvin (The Blasters), Victor Krummenacher (Camper Van Beethoven, Eyelids) and indie goddess Jesse Solomon Sykes. On a West Coast tour which spanned Seattle’s Crocodile Club to Los Angeles’ legendary Troubadour, this was a musical match made in heaven, with rabid crowds at every stop.
‍

Upon return, Steven and Matt hit the woodshed and crafted more new material, resulting in the four-song EP Last Stop on the Underground (2024).  The band also toured the UK and Europe in the summer of 2024.

‍In addition to Piucci and Roback, Rain Parade features long-time Rain Parade guitarist John Thoman, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist  Derek See (The Gentle Cycle, Chocolate Watchband, Dean & Britta), and drummer/percussionist Stephan Junca (Billy Talbot  Band, Jon Anderson, The Hellenes, boatclub).
