FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA. (THURSDAY AUGUST 5, 2021) – Strictly Elizabeth, who has been experiencing success at college radio with their most recent recording Contemporary Construction announced today that their animated short film What Happened To Stephanie? is confirmed for a screening at Dances with Films at the TCL Chinese Theaters in Hollywood on Aug. 27, 2pm. This is the tenth screening/award for What Happened to Stephanie?

As of August, 2021 What Happened To Stephanie? has garnered festival selections/wins including the Los Angeles Film Awards (Best Music Video), Los Angeles Film & Script Festival (Best Animation) and Los Angeles Rocks Film Festival (Best Animation & Best Editing) and others with the latest honor from L.A.’s prestigious Dances With Films who selected What Happened to Stephanie? in the Downbeat category.

“It’s been thrilling to see so many people respond favorably to the characters in What Happened to Stephanie?,” said Jessica Elizabeth Davenport, who conceptualized and storyboarded the film from the songs of Strictly Elizabeth. “I worked closely with Director Ciro Ayala on this film, so to see it being recognized by a prestigious film festival like Dances with Films is really rewarding.”

As the Executive Producer, Screenwriter and Artist, Jessica Elizabeth Davenport teamed up with Director Ciro Ayla and his Provoke Films to create the animated short film.

The film What Happened to Stephanie? brings together three original songs that tell the story of Liz and Stephanie and the rock band they love, Strictly Elizabeth. Their story is told in comic book style inspired by the artwork of Roy Lichtenstein. Liz is a middle-aged woman reflecting on her life and what she’s lost. Stefanie is a young, seemingly carefree woman who’s the life of the party. She reminds Liz of her younger self. Secretly though Stefanie carries the weight of an abusive and controlling family she is desperate to get away from and Liz wrestles with survivor’s guilt and painful memories that keep her frozen and isolated. We meet them with their male companions Zee and Hayden at happy hour, a bar called “Oscillation Friday”. Hayden follows Stephanie into a dark club, where we see strangers in elation from love found on the dance floor but Stephanie finds violence in the face of rejection. In the final scene of “Seduction Trash,” at a Strictly Elizabeth show, Liz and Stephanie are both haunted by their memories and the human tendency to reenact unresolved traumas. The short film is dedicated to Bessel van der Kolk M.D. and survivors everywhere. Stay brave.

Strictly Elizabeth’s new album Contemporary Construction was released earlier this year, and is distributed via DashGo on Data Water Records.
