FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA (WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 6, 2013) – America’s premier independent comedy label, Stand Up! Records (http://www.standuprecords.com) is excited to announce six new fall & winter releases from their eclectic, stable of wildly talented new and established comedians on CD, vinyl and digital formats.

Stand Up! Records brand spanking new material from Tracey Ashley, Ari Shaffir, John Tole, Dave Mordal, Paul Hooper and Jamie Kilstein who are very much the next generation of iconic comics on the Stand Up! Records roster. (A roster that has released 18 records so far this year!) These new comics follow in the footsteps of established comedians with releases on Stand Up! Records like Lewis Black, Doug Stanhope, Hannibal Buress, Patton Oswalt, Marc Maron, Greg Proops, Maria Bamford and other well-known funny people.  These new release are:

*Ari Shaffir – Revenge for the Holocaust – Vinyl Only (Out Now)

Ari Shaffir is probably best-known for a series of comedy shorts, “The Amazing Racist.” In these shorts, Shaffir—”The Amazing Racist”—is seen acting, well, overtly and ironically racist. Shaffir filmed many of his offensive encounters for the DVD National Lampoon’s Lost Reality. They were then ripped to the Internet by hundreds of different nerds and seen by millions of people, many of whom sent him death threats. Loving, wonderful death threats.

*John Tole – Reign in Laughs (Out Now)

John Tole is an international touring comic and tattooed metalhead. Raised on a steady diet of 80s punk and thrash, John rails against the hypocrisy of state control and succeeds in exposing the false idol of political correctness. He is a hard charging comic who is able to bring audiences together despite a wide variety of divisive topics.

*Dave Mordal – (pronounced dāv mȯr-däl) (Out Now)

Dave Mordal was born in Elk River, MN. That’s the first joke he ever knew. Since that time, he’s gone on to become a Marine, a heavy equipment operator, a failed robber, an occasional television host, and, of course, a stand up comedian of the highest caliber. He appeared on the first and third seasons of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, taking second place in 2004. A late-night regular, Mordal’s most likely the only comic actor to have hosted a Discovery channel series (in his case, Wreckreation Nation).

*Paul Hooper – Tense & Uncomfortable (Out Now)

Paul Hooper hits the stage with thought provoking, politically incorrect comedy that slams society and himself with absolute irreverence. An only child with OCD, Hooper channels his dysfunction into a cathartic harangue. He parlays his undeniable likability into high-energy rants that quickly win over doubters. Less filibuster than joyful bluster, Hooper’s comedy has gotten him invited to the HBO Comedy Festival in Vegas, the Boston Comedy Festival, Michael Moore and Jeff Garlin’s Traverse City Comedy Arts Festival, and the Vancouver Comedy Fest. He was a finalist in the 30th Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition.

*Jamie Kilstein – What Alive People Do (Out Now)

Jamie tours the globe tirelessly, and has made appearances all over the United States, Canada, China, the Netherlands and the UK. Most recently, he was featured twice on Comedy Central and the BBC’S The World Stands up. He played the most talked about show at the 2007 Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival featuring, Eddie Izzard, Billy Connolly, Louis CK, Lewis Black and The Kids in the Hall, and was then featured at the festivals Best Of The Fest show. He has also been seen on The Paramount Comedy Channel in the UK The Comedy Channel in Australia and Showtime Comedy in the Middle East. He was featured on Think MTV and in recently was invited to the most sought after show at The Montreal Comedy Festival, the 2008 New Faces.

*Tracy Ashley – Two First Names (12/3/13)

Tracey Ashley, honored most recently as one of the featured comics on Wanda Sykes’s OWN Network special “Herlarious,” is an accomplished comedienne who has topped the competition on “Last Comic Standing” and been named Campus Activities magazine’s Best Female Performer. She’s also a recognizable voice talent, television host, and all-around hilarious stand up – exhibit A in the closing arguments proving, once and for all, that women are funny. Incredibly so.

Stand Up! Records was founded in 2002 and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is run by the guru of the gag and Grammy-winning comedy producer Dan Schlissel. It’s a label that has expanded from a labor of love into an ever-expanding comedic empire, releasing more than 100 releases in their 10-year history. It’s Schlissel’s aesthetic for the label that places as much of a premium on album art for both CD and vinyl packaging as it does on the comedy material itself. In fact, the goal of the label is to marry great artwork, along with top-notch sound recording quality and truly hilarious comedy material that is the labels ethos.

Aside from simply releasing the next great comedy records of the 21st century, Schlissel’s first order of business was commissioning noted artist Shepard Fairey in 2002 to design the label logo which has led to his founding the very first comedy festival in Mexico known as the Akumal Comedy Festival (www.akumalcomedyfestival.com) each April. His latest endeavor is commissioning noted Austin neon artist Todd Sanders to create the SUR logo in neon. More here: http://storytld.com

Stand Up! Records is so focused on blazing a new trail as being more than just a record label but a comedy brand juggernaut. By combining comedy, great art, producing cool stuff, discovering new talent and creating merchandise Schlissel follows one simple credo: If I like it, I’ll make it.
