LOS ANGELES, CA (MONDAY SEPTEMBER 15, 2014) – Five-time Grammy nominated music supervisor and noted KCRW Disc Jockey Gary Calamar (www.garycalamar.com) confirmed today that a record release show in support of his E.P. You Are What You listen To via Atlantic Records will be held at noon on October 12 at the Federal Bar (www.thefederalbar.com) in North Hollywood.

You Are What You Listen To is Gary Calamar’s debut as a musician & songwriter of gloriously catchy, sparkly rock and roll songs, filled with abundant wit and melody. It will be released the following Tuesday, October 14. Australian singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist EL MAY will open the show, which is part of Gary’s monthly Mimosa Music series.

“I had always been a songwriter, although I never called myself that,” said Gary Calamar. “Since I was a kid, I banged out songs on my acoustic guitar just for myself, just for the fun and the hell of it. I was thrilled that Mr. Iggy Pop recorded one of my songs for True Blood and he encouraged me to take my songwriting a little more seriously. I played some demos for Kevin Weaver at Atlantic Records and he said ‘we should put this out’ and I enthusiastically agreed.”

Gary Calamar, who is well known in the music business as a music supervisor (True Blood, Dexter, Six Feet Under…) Radio DJ (KCRW) and author (Record Store Days) has added another title to his resume: Singer-Songwriter-ROCKER. Calamar writes and performs catchy, sparkling, rock and roll songs, filled with abundant wit and melody. Drawing inspiration from his rock heroes, his tunes alternately crunch and caress.
